3.1 RESEARCH
Integrated Poster
An integrated poster refers to a visually cohesive and harmonious design that incorporates various elements seamlessly into a single composition. It involves merging diverse aspects of your personality and hobbies in a way that feels coherent and portrays who you are in the context of your self-poster.
This style of poster may be a fun and expressive way to show off different aspects of your personality and interests. It enables you to combine graphics, colours, and text in a visually pleasing and relevant way. The goal is to develop a design that feels complete and represents your distinct identity.
3.2 CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
Your self-portrait should not be a conventional photograph; instead, it should reflect your personality, interests, and imagination in a creative and artistic manner. Begin by brainstorming ideas for your imaginative self-portrait. Think about what aspects of your personality, interests, or dreams you want to convey. Consider the visual style and mood you want to create.
A Biography About Myself (Rationale)
INTRO | My name is Yan Zhi Xuan, and I’m 19 this year. I come from Sungai Besar, the principal town of Sabak Bernam District, Selangor, Malaysia. I'm interested in design creation so I chose my degree programme as Bachelor of Design (Honours) In Creative Media. |
PARAGRAPH 1 | I started dancing when I was 5. I like dancing. Although I am of Malaysian nationality, I have the opportunity to be exposed to K-pop culture. Besides that, I have been to dance competitions and won prizes. I still teach myself to dance. I really enjoy dancing every single day. |
PARAGRAPH 2 | I love Y2K fashion and Japanese culture. this year, I was also honoured to have the opportunity to get into this part of the modelling field. I've become more interested in Y2K fashion and have started to experiment more with the style. It's a good match for my cheerful personality, love of dancing and singing, and love of anime. |
SUMMARY | I hope I can continue to shine in the realm of dance and fashion. In the future, I will make more efforts to reach out to related activities and get more meaningful gains for me. |

INTRO | I want to create a poster themed as “shine in the good nights” which I like to wear Y2K fashion outfits. aligns well with my personality and interests, especially my love for dancing on the stage, enjoying K-pop and my fashion preferences like Y2K styles. I could create a visually appealing design that incorporates elements of K-pop and Y2K fashion. |
PARAGRAPH 1 | I will use vibrant colours or dynamic patterns that represent the energy and excitement of K-pop and Y2K fashion. Including illustrations or images related to my favourite K-pop styles. Moreover, showcase my Y2K fashion style with outfits or photos of my favourite looks. |
PARAGRAPH 2 | Besides that, I consider incorporating fashion elements into the overall design, like clothing patterns or accessories. For typography, I will use my own font for my quote. I will consider adding small icons or symbols that represent my dance interests or any other Y2K elements that reflect my interests. |

3.3 WORK PROGRESS
Use Photoshop to create a base self-portrait image that serves as the foundation for your artwork. Apply photo manipulation techniques to modify and enhance the base image.
Incorporate illustrations, symbols, or graphics that represent your chosen theme or concept. Blend these illustrations seamlessly with the self-portrait image.
Select a caption, phrase, or quote that complements and enhances the narrative of your self-portrait. Experiment with typography styles, sizes, and placement to create a visually striking and coherent typographic element.

My chosen quote, "shine in the good nights" is a beautiful phrase that suggests radiance and positivity even during the nighttime. The poster uses a bright colour palette with blues, purples, pink, and green, or pastel colours for a Y2K touch. The stars symbolise the nighttime atmosphere, while light sources and typography convey the idea of shining in the darkness. Dance poses reflect movement and energy, and Y2K fashion elements are integrated with a nighttime twist.

4. Reflection
In this poster, I embarked on a visual journey to capture the aspects of my identity. I learned the techniques of photography. The incorporated illustrations act as symbolic fragments of my identity. Each element contributes to the narrative. The blending of these illustrations with the poster signifies the connections between these elements within my being and my interests. The chosen typography element, a carefully curated caption or quote, adds a verbal dimension to the visual story. Through the interplay of text and image, a dialogue emerges, deepening the viewer's understanding of the narrative I aim to convey.
