3.1 RESEARCH
Introduction to Scoot McCloud's Theory on Transition (Summary)
McCloud's theory on transitions in comics highlights the gutter as a crucial space for reader imagination, allowing creators to control pacing, rhythm, and emotional impact, forming a foundational aspect of comic theory.
Introduction to Digital Triptych
A digital triptych is a creative composition consisting of three distinct panels or images, derived from the traditional triptych format in art history. It uses digital tools and platforms to explore storytelling, convey themes, or present a cohesive visual narrative. Key elements include visual continuity, narrative potential, creative expression, and digital mediums. Digital triptychs can be used for sequential art narratives, thematic exploration, visual juxtaposition, and interactive elements. They can be used for storytelling, comic formats, and to explore complex ideas. The flexibility of digital tools allows artists to experiment with various styles and techniques, bringing their ideas to life in a visually engaging manner.

Description (Rationale)
I chose The Vanishing Hitchhiker as the urban legend for this task. Besides that, I chose Aspect-to-Aspect Transition because is distinctive in that it depicts multiple things occurring concurrently inside the same scene.

Panel 2: During climactic turning point (Disappearance and Empty Seat)
Panel 3: After the turning point (Close-Up of Driver's Reaction)

3.4 FEEDBACK
My friend told me that I cannot use the frames of the previous task for the Before and After. I need to create new designs. Besides that, the lecturer also said we only need to choose one transition for the whole digital triptych.
3.5 REFLECTIONS
I learned that the usage of Scott McCloud's Theory of Transitions in "Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art" explores the language and artistry of comics through six types of transitions. These transitions guide readers through sequential art, influencing the pacing, flow, and emotional impact of the story. McCloud identifies six types: Moment-to-Moment Transition, Action-to-Action Transition, Subject-to-Subject Transition, Scene-to-Scene Transition, Aspect-to-Aspect Transition, and Non-Sequitur Transition. Each type of transition helps convey a sense of time passing, a dynamic action, a broader exploration of characters, a linear plot progression, and a more open-ended narrative structure. McCloud emphasizes the importance of the "gutter" or space between panels, where readers engage their imagination to bridge gaps between images.

Visual Storytelling - The Vanishing Hitchhiker
Panel 1 (Before the turning point) (Driving):
Transition Type: Aspect-to-Aspect Transition
Description: The first panel displays a lonely car driving down a lonesome roadway at night with a driver and a woman. The scene sets the stage for the urban legend, "The Vanishing Hitchhiker."
Panel 2 (During climactic turning point) (Disappearance and Empty Seat)
Transition Type: Aspect-to-Aspect Transition
Description: The hitchhiker, initially in the car, begins to drift away. Concurrently, the driver's demeanour shifts from confusion to surprise. The empty seat indicates the moment when the hitchhiker totally vanishes. This moment-to-moment transition intensifies the suspense, allowing the audience to experience the disappearance gradually.
Panel 3 (After the turning point) (Close-Up of Driver's Reaction):
Transition Type: Aspect-to-Aspect Transition
Description: The driver was shocked and frightened as he watched her disappear in the mirror.
