2. 3 FAVOURITE STOP
MOTION SHORT
Favourite Stop Motion Short #1
This video was created using 2,767 photos. The ability to make legos look like flowing liquid is incredible. The time it takes to make one, the tiny movements that make a photo seem beautiful, the Legos, the attention to detail, and everything else about it is art. The fact that the artist can move his hands so wonderfully while not moving them too much amazes me. His patience and creativity are astounding.
Favourite Stop Motion Short #2
This is so impressive because there are no language barriers so everyone can understand the message that the artist wants to convey. The artists are able to tell a more emotionally catching story in 7 minutes with no dialogue. They accomplished with models in limited locations, yet this film is on a whole different level. The character animation is integrated into a life-size sushi restaurant set that was created from the ground up, and this decision pays off in the impressive camera direction that results —the production is able to go wide and really play with perspective and depth of field in a way that is unusual for the form.
Favourite Stop Motion Short #3
The short film Tokri, created by India's Suresh Eriyat, revolves around a simple story about a young girl selling baskets in Mumbai. Eriyat, an independent animator, was struck by guilt after shooing her away, a practice often associated with gangs. He pondered whether she needed help to bring peace to her home. The film, which took eight years to complete, is a testament to Eriyat's prolific work in various styles, including stop-motion, 3D, and 2D hand-drawn. Despite its simplicity, Tokri is overflowing with detail, with tight compositions, confined spaces, and few characters. The film also incorporates motion and wide shots, capturing the bustling Mumbai streetscape and incorporating dozens of moving elements.
3. STOP MOTION TRIAL SHOOTING
Work Progress
For this task, we needed to work together to learn how stop motion works.
My group members: Chan Xiang Lam, Gunn Joey, Dog Lim Yu Xuen and Tan Sin Mi
The first thing we did was analysing the two videos:
Planning & Preproduction:
Doc. 3.1 Planning & Preproduction.
Shooting Checklist:
Doc. 3.2 Stop Motion Trail Shooting Checklist.
After preparation, we started shooting at the studio.

Production
After shooting, I started editing by using Adobe Premiere Pro.
I created new project, chose this setting(1920x1080 24/25 frame per second). Before importing the photos seq, I changed the setting: Premiere Pro CC > Preferences >Timeline.
Before importing photos:

I separated sequences into different folders.

I also adjusted the speed of the clip.

4. FINAL PROJECT: STOP MOTION
Work Progress
After watching various stop motion videos, I understood how the concept works. Next, we worked in pairs to complete the final project: stop motion. My partner is Yang Zhi Qing.
We decided to make a video about making Cookie sticks.
Theme: Cookie Sticks With Love
Concept:
A heartwarming story of love, conveyed through the adventures of cookie sticks in a charming stop motion animation. The video will start with game mode.
Final Project Proposal:
Doc. 4.1 Proposal - Final Project: Stop Motion.
Paper Cut Preparation:
We used Procreate to design out all of the necessary paper cuts and then print them.
This strategy's benefit(s) is that it saves money and time. We set the colour file to CMYK mode.

We printed the paper-cut designs and cut them out.

Shooting Set Up:

We used the phone to shoot.

Production
After exporting the material as a video, we conducted some basic frame modifications to guarantee that the film was approximately one minute long. We then tweaked the hue and filter to obtain clear and bright pictures. Later, we included background music and ambient sound effects. We chose background music from the Cooking Mama OST to complement our relaxed dessert-making video.Fig. 4.5 Adding Animations.

5. FEEDBACK
Week 12 - Proposal
Feedback: Mr. Martin said he liked our animation story, especially the final part where the girl gives a gift to the boy and the boy gives a bigger one in return. It is a warm and cute scene.
6. REFLECTION
Experience
Working on stop motion projects is both challenging and rewarding. The process teaches the importance of patience and precision. Each completed frame brings a sense of accomplishment, knowing the effort invested in creating smooth transitions and captivating narratives. The tactile nature of manipulating physical objects enhances the creative experience, making each project a unique journey of discovery and expression.
Observation
I realised that stop motion animation is a time-intensive medium, where even a few seconds of animation can take hours to create, underscoring its labour-intensive nature. Consistency is key in this art form, as maintaining consistent lighting and camera angles is crucial to ensure a smooth flow of movement. The engaging aesthetic of stop motion, with its tangible, handcrafted quality, captivates viewers and evokes a sense of wonder and nostalgia. Additionally, the deliberate pacing of stop motion allows for detailed storytelling, emphasizing specific moments and emotions effectively, thereby enhancing its emotional impact.
Findings
I found that stop motion animation, with its intricate and hands-on approach, requires meticulous attention to detail. Each frame demands careful positioning of characters and props, consistent lighting, and precise camera angles. The process is slow and methodical, with even minor adjustments requiring significant time and effort. Observing the creation of stop motion reveals the dedication and patience needed to produce fluid, seamless motion.
