1. TASK 3 BRIEF
Doc. 1.1 Module Information Booklet
of Design Principles.
Description and Summary
After analysing the design of the choice in Task 2, create a work of
design inspired by it. Applying design principles, using suitable
mediums to convey the visual message, and not using direct
photographs. Plagiarised work results in an F grade and university
policy violations.
The blog should showcase all completed work for the module, along with
a final reflection, and be discussed and demonstrated to the lecturer
during class.

3. SKETCHES & WORK PROGRESS
Fig. 3.1 Sketches.
Description:
Sketch #1: A boat fishing on the surface with
dirty ocean plastics under the water.
Sketch #2: There is a contrast effect, the water
the raft passes through is clean and the rest is
covered in ocean plastics.
Sketch #3: There is a contrast between the top
section which is overfishing and covered in ocean
plastics, and the bottom section which is rich in
water resources.
After getting
feedback, I chose Sketch #3 and made the continuity more obvious
to make the visual elements more interesting.
Fig. 3.2 Work progress before getting
feedback.
Work progress before getting feedback:
1 & 2: I tried on the colours of the net, and I
chose white at the end.
3 & 4: I tried on the colours of the dirty part.
5 & 6: I decided to blend the yellowish water with
the clean water to make the overall fit well.
7 & 8: I made the ocean more blue and tried to
change the colour tone slightly.
9: I took away the net and focused on the topic of
water pollution.
Fig. 3.3 Work progress #1 after
getting feedback.
Work progress #1 after getting feedback:
I changed the arrangement of the rubbish so that the
movement seemed smoother.
Work progress #2 after getting feedback:
I changed the colour of the scuba diver to a light tone
and changed the colour of the fish to a dark tone so
that the fish could stand out from the background as the
groups of fish are the main characters.
Work progress #3 after getting feedback:
I made slight changes to the left upper part to make
it more cloudy because of the water pollution.
Fig. 3.6 Work progress #4 after getting
feedback.
Work progress #4 after getting feedback:
I made slight changes to the arrangement of the fish
and the size of the scuba diver. I also changed the
colour of the jellyfish and added some starfish.

5. RATIONALE
A rationale, in about 150-200 words,
explaining/defending the decisions made
in your design, the meaning/purpose of
the design and the design principles
that are found in the design.
Title of the design: Preserve the Blue
The meaning of the design is to
make a comparison of two scenarios
in the ocean (life below water),
where the first scenario (upper left)
shows the ocean water is dirty due
to a lot of rubbish and the water
resources are decreasing, and the
second scenario (bottom right) shows
the ocean water is clear and the
water resources are abundant due to
the lack of pollution. The purpose
of the design is to create a visual
impact to raise people's awareness
of the issue of marine pollution and
encourage them to take action to
protect the ocean. The design
principles that are found in my
design are movement, harmony &
unity, approximate balance and
repetition. The
movement of the design
leads the eyes to look at the huge
groups of aquatic animals, followed
by the ocean plastics. There
is harmony where
the design elements fit together
with the same theme and design
style,
while unity is the
use of the same shapes and
colours. The design is approximately balanced, as the visual weight is
almost equal in the
composition. The repetition depicts
aquatic animals and plastics
surrounding the scuba diver.

6. FEEDBACK
Feedback on Sketches
Sketch #1: That boat
could be drawn in the
off-centre part and then
the fish could be a bit
more.
Sketch #2: This idea
seems to have been done
already, try different
compositions.
Sketch #3: The continuity
is not obvious enough, the
fish could have been drawn
more and gathered a little
more.
Feedback on Design
The lecturer said that I
could try to change the
colour of the scuba diver to
a light tone and change the
colour of the fish to a dark
tone to stand out from the
background. I could draw
more aquatic animals and try
to make the movement of the
visual elements
smoother.
